For 19 years, my business partner and I ran an agency that created marketing programs for some of the world’s most well-known businesses.
In that time, I led our company from a three-person production shop to a multi-million dollar creative agency with a ~15% profit margin. We had no investors, just whatever we reinvested from our profits.
To differentiate our business, I led a full agency rebrand, and we became ‘the agency that thrives in the after-hours’. This helped us lean into our strengths and we continued to thrive and win more business with, especially, entertainers and alcoholic beverage companies. The in-house ‘always-on’ studio I built created storytelling platforms for every one of our clients.
Most years, I led a team of ~25 and worked with each of my direct reports to develop our services and products, our marketing and sales plans, and our management methods. We were thoughtful with hiring and intentional with culture. As a result, we had a great retention rate, with some of our staff staying with us for ten years or more.
